Does the idea of a Family Portrait Session stress you out?
I hear this ALL the time from moms . . . Read on, watch my 2-minute video, and see the before-and-after transformation! You will be amazed. Promise! :)
Location family portraits (meaning any portrait that happens somewhere other than a photography studio) don't have to be hard! We talk to moms a LOT and coach them to make things as streamlined and stress-free as possible!
Here is a quick breakdown of my thoughts as a portrait artist for how to make sure your photo shoot isn't stressful:
1. Color coordination does not mean everyone has to be wearing the exact same color! Its about... coordination! Look at this family! Between the mom's great job in selecting clothing and my ability to properly bring the family together we ended up with an AMAZING PORTRAIT! Did you know most of my moms text me pictures of their clothing a few days before the session? Yes! Of course, I'm happy to help! I want your family portrait or painting to be EVERYTHING you ever dreamed of AND TRUST ME I will be very proud of it, too.

2. ONE AMAZING FAMILY PORTRAIT is what I strive for when I work with families here in Charleston, SC and surrounding cities. Why do you need 300 images? Would you rather have ONE amazing portrait or 300 mediocre pictures? A true portrait artist will always strive for PERFECTION. She will talk to her client in a consult about what they want as an end result. Usually a mom wants that one perfect portrait - and that is what we strive for!
3. What about the dad? Well, what about Dad? Dads are awesome and amazing, and we love them! We always want them involved as much as we can get them, but, lets face it ladies... generally speaking, family portraits are OUR department. Dads will go and they will smile because we asked him to! He will do it because he loves you and his children and that is OK. That is another reason why, when I work with families, I like to be objective and work rather fast. Its not because I'm in a hurry at all. It's because the children wear out fast, there are usually a lot of people and a lot of distractions. I want everyone to be happy and in a great mood, including Dad!
4. There are two components to a family portrait.
A) The gorgeous wall portrait (that is the end result) and
B) The EXPERIENCE!
This is your family, and we are creating history. In a few years, these children will not look like this - and you may be lucky if they consent to be seen in public with you! (I know! I have older children now.)
Enjoy the experience and follow it up with a wonderful dinner at Magnolias or Pearlz Oyster Bar downtown (two of my favorites) - because IT IS a special occasion! Celebrate your family! And maybe you can even walk The Historic Charleston City Market and get some dessert at Kaminsky's Dessert Cafe - YUM! Make a day out of it. Enjoy! It will make your portrait that much more special when it reminds of that exceptional day you had with your family after you got it made.
When was the last time you had a family portrait done? If you had another portrait created where would it be? I would love to help you! I love children and families, and that is all I do.
All my love,
Artistically Yours,
Maria Sampaio
"What a great time my family and I had getting our 1st family portraits done. I was so scared the kids would not sit still long enough to capture a great photo. But man was I wrong! Maria was amazing with them! She kept their attention and they followed her directions very well. The session was so well organized. I highly recommend her it was such a great experience for everyone!"
