If you remember back to your childhood you have a ton of fond memories. Chances are, you have those fond memories documented somewhere at your parents or grandparents house in a photo album. You bring the kids over for a Sunday brunch in Charleston, SC and they can flip the pages and laugh at your hairstyle or the fact you were missing your two front teeth at the same time! While you can scan those and also share them on social media, it's nothing like having that physical album to touch and feel . . . if you're like my mom - she even wrote the dates of those pictures on the back!
It's true. We live in a digital age now. There is still no comparison to having those real, in time, albums that you can hold onto, though. It's a labor of love and it's absolutely timeless. There's a reason photo albums have been around for as long as they have and social media is so fast to move onto the next . . . it's a tried and true way to preserve memories!
If you look at how photo albums have changed over the years, it's remarkable. No more black and whites or grainy images. . . you have beautifully crisp photographs and every detail has been digitally remastered to look amazing. They're more durable than before and they're hard back. Not bendable pages where the kids can take out the picture and lose it, or pages that leave smudgy fingerprints. They're beautiful and stand the test of time if they're taken care of. It's something you can physically hold and it shows a story of whatever you choose to put into it. A Charleston Santa Experience? Believe sessions? Family sessions? All your priceless memories from that time are frozen and stand still in an album.
Do you remember VHS tapes and floppy disks? YOU may - but now ask a teenager. They have no idea what that is! Those forms are technology are extremely hard to come by now. Even if you can get your hands on a way to look at those, it isn't secure and it may end up frying in the process. Not even ten years ago those things were around and now it's near impossible to access. What's to say those USB's and disks won't be the same way? Sure, you save them now for a way to access them but before you know it - it'll be obsolete. There won't be a way to access any of your digitals! Not the same way you do now, anyway.
Now tell me. . . do you remember MySpace??? Our kids most certainly do not! How many precious memories did you lose when you forgot your password or email associated with your account? What happens when something new comes and FaceBook isn't around? What if they change their picture settings? Not to mention when you upload, a picture becomes grainy. It changes the pixels and you can't print those off later because to blow them up will leave you with basically grains of sand. We see how Instagram became huge and then Twitter. . . now TikTok is the rage . . . what's next? It's been years that some of the younger generations have touched Facebook. What's being lost on that social platform????
Now I'll say it again . . . Photo Albums are a tried & TRUE way to preserve memories. They aren't lost. They are something you can touch and don't diminish with time. They're beautiful and timeless. They're passed down generation to generation. It isn't just something you can scroll past. . . it's a piece of artwork in your home. Don't let your precious memories become an album that isn't appreciated on a social media platform. . . Let them be appreciated by generations to come and well loved!
I do believe in sharing your beautiful artwork . . . so with that being said I do always gift my clients with Shareable Files of every portrait they purchase the day of their sales session!
