Charleston, SC is definitely a beautiful area to get married. Many couples take advantage of the gorgeous scenery and warm weather to celebrate their big day. While Castelo Portrait Art doesn't offer wedding photography - I am always excited to capture bridal portraits. They're so breath taking and timeless. It's a great way to practice your posing and get comfortable in your gown before your big day. It's also a unique and heart felt present for your husband for his big day.
While you may think of your big day when you think wedding portraits - bridal portraits have actually been around a lot longer than the "wedding day" photography. Dating back to around the 1840's there was only a daguerreotype portrait on a small copper sheet. This was mainly because of equipment limitations and lack of knowledge as far as photography went. Studio photography was the rave and it was the only reliable way to have memories of your special day!
If you look back at older portraits you think of black and white. This is also because color photography didn't take off until the later 1900's. They faded and often times the color shifted so photographers continued to work in a studio setting with black and white film. The whole idea of capturing the wedding day wasn't an event until after the Second World War, either! All those soldiers coming home actually created a "wedding boom" where everyone wanted to document the big day. This is where more portraiture for weddings moved from the studio into outdoor settings.
It's amazing to me how we went from all studio portraiture for weddings to now it's almost impossible to find a portrait studio for bridal portraits! It's such a special practice to capture your specially handcrafted dress of every detail it has to offer. Now it's all Pinterest board crafted weddings that often the bride's dress and make up isn't the first priority. Capturing all of that in a beautiful, timeless, and mesmerizing studio portrait is what calls to my heart and to many of my brides.
While I do believe bridal portraits are so timeless in a studio setting - I also suggest this is done with your "trial runs." This is meaning when you're getting your make up and hair done BEFORE the wedding by Lashes and Lace as a trial. This is the prime day to get your portraits done in the studio! I am a professional and I will help you in posing and this will also carry on into your wedding day. Think of me as assisting your wedding planner for your big day. . . You'll also feel at ease knowing your dress fits just right and how to move freely in it. You spent a lot of time and invested in your wedding gown from Lowcountry Bride and Gown - capture it in all it's beauty!
For your big day you'll be able to pose beautifully at your venue whether you're getting married at Legare Waring House or Cypress Gardens. Maybe you'll even be brave and get married out on the water on the SpiritLine Dinner Cruise ship! The portraiture from the studio and these locations will both be breath taking - in completely different ways! Another benefit to getting bridal portraits done before the wedding day is in case something spills on your dress. I've seen it so many times in the past when I did wedding photography that the bride would drop cake on her dress. . . while the cakes from Sweet Rhi are to die for - you don't want them anywhere near your white gown! Getting those stains out can be a nightmare and can alter your gown!
Your wedding day is going to be a day you remember forever. It's so important to capture those memories and those moments before they're gone! It's not something you ever plan to do again - don't carry any regrets!
