WHAT? Seriously?
Seriously. I don't sell digital files. I DO however give my clients shareable files to share via social media, text etc.
For the last 19 years I have created a ton of photographs and paintings of humans and fur babies of all ages. I marvel in it. I often can't sleep at night thinking about new ideas and sets - things I want to do..... and how I want to execute it. I love Art! Art is POWERFUL and can evoke so much emotion. I 100% believe that art is meant to be displayed and find that many artists now a days do a great disservice to families by not offering gorgeous art of their loved ones. Instead they send you "files"... I struggle with that so much for MANY reasons!
I don't sell digital files. I never have. I don't believe in that. Want to know more about WHY I feel so strongly about this? Read on . . .
So you may be asking yourself . . . WHY? Why are you so passionate about not selling files and only selling art?
1. You will always value something MORE when it is an ORIGINAL. Lets think about this.... Do you have a favorite item you own that cannot be replaced? About 12 years ago I had a very interesting experience in Hawaii and ended up purchasing what became my favorite piece of jewelry. Its not your "typical" piece of jewelry - its a gorgeous piece - a "swirl" I wear as a necklace made of whale bone. Now, I could explain WHY I am so attached to and love this materialistic item so much - and no, its not because it was expensive, even thought it was. But that's a whole other story. The point is, I can't replace this item or how it makes me feel. It is so special to me and I treat it like it is the most valuable thing I own.... and materialistically it truly is. If I owned 10 more of them (like I do 10 cheap pairs of sunglasses) then if I lost it, or it broke, it wouldn't matter to me, would it? The necklace is an original piece of art I wear. In my eyes it is gorgeous and if I lost it I would be devastated. We value original things that cannot be replaced!
2. I love art and have paid other artists many times to create for me - of me and those I love. I once had pieces created by an artist and dear friend who insisted on just "giving me the digital files" - we never sat down and discussed her vision or how she envisioned it like I do with my clients. She just gave me a handful of digital files and guess what? That was 8 years ago and they are somewhere on my hard drive. I honestly don't even know where. The artwork was gorgeous but time slipped away and well..... that was that. I hate that and now Im compelled to go back and find them! Life is so busy. When my husband and I got married 3 years ago I had an amazing artist - who has also become a friend - do my wedding. I paid her IN FULL. I told her I didn't want digitals and that I wanted her to create my wedding album. Its stunning and proudly displayed along with a 24x30 wedding portrait in my entryway.
3. Not all printing quality is alike - puppy labs are a dime a dozen. They ruin gorgeous artwork by over/under printing and having issues with color calibration. When you work with a professional they care tremendously about quality!
Creating a printed piece of art or a painting is tangible and will be enjoyed daily in your home by your family and those who visit you. It is a constant reminder of how blessed you are in life. None of us will live forever - that is a fact - and creating gorgeous artwork of people we love and displaying it shows our love for them too. Wall art will last forever and will be a family heirloom.
Print. Digitals files in hard drives don't last forever. Artwork does!
