When selecting clothing for a portrait session it's important to keep color harmony in mind. If you are the only one in the portrait, then you do not have to worry about this as much - but even then selecting colors that will photograph well are very important. You want to select aesthetically pleasing color combinations!
Here are a few tips on clothing:
1. Stay away from patterns. They do not normally photograph well. Plain is always better!
2. If this is a couples or family portrait you can go dressy or casual - you can "match" (Think jeans and black tops here) OR you can go with complimentary colors as seen with the couple and dogs above. Greens and oranges or blues and yellows are great examples. You can also go with more monochromatic colors, meaning variations of one color (Think variations of blue as an example) - all these will work beautifully.
3. Fitted clothing photographs better. Avoid very loose clothing as it tends to make you look "bigger" in portraits.
4. Feel free to be glamorous! We love casual and dressy portraits - there is no wrong answer! Do what makes you happy as this is for you! :)
5. Think of your home.... if you are going to hang a beautiful wall portrait what colors do you like to decorate with? You may want to wear those colors so that your portrait goes with your home!
