We all know that children can make nights long–some even more than others–but the years are painfully short. It’s a saying almost every parent has heard. Each stage of your child’s development marks a moment in time that you’ll never witness again. That newborn who nuzzles your neck will soon be hitting home runs out of the park. The toddler who stumbles over her first steps will soon be dancing in the recital. The stages are the same, whether you live in Charleston, SC like us or really, anywhere else!
Quality portraiture and paintings memorializes the fleeting moments of life, giving you something tangible to help you remember this stage of life before it is gone. Thats why we focus on the ARTFORM of portraits . . . its about the beauty of that ONE portrait (or maybe a few) - where it captures that childs soul and the parent sees it. As an artist I can see one thing, but a parent can see through it down to that child's "person" and THAT along with the artistry turns a picture into an art piece that will be cherished forever. Meet Naomi & Eddie - this beautiful little pair of siblings, ages 4 & 2 respectively were in recently for their formal portrait session. Some times parents select colors, clothing and ideas - sometimes they just have a color scheme in mind and we do the rest... We LOVE customizing your portrait session. We often even shop for clothing to fit the style discussed - its important so that the final outcome is EXACTLY what we wanted. I LOVE how this portrait session turned out. The colors are rich and elegant and enhance the beautiful skin tones the children have. I could not have asked for a better pair to work with!
Portrait photography is an heirloom that stands the test of time. It may be passed down across generations, to be cherished and preserved by descendants you may never know. It puts a face to the stories your family will tell and allows your most cherished memories to echo through time. That is what I strive for at Castelo Portrait Art, my studio in Charleston, SC.
There are many times in life where a gorgeous portrait can and should be created, such as when you are expecting, the newborn stage before 14 days of life, on birthdays etc - but TO ME as an artist and photographer in Charleston, there is ONE STAGE that you simply cannot and should not EVER skip. It's an age where the face is still baby like but they are not babies... it is an age that I would give anything to see my children in again and makes my heart warm when I look at their portraits from many years ago. What age is that may you ask . . .
The beautiful, imaginative age of 4! To me, there is nothing like the age of 4. They can hold full conversations with you, they have opinions(!) They love fairies and wizards and mermaids. They can sing, usually love to dance and (my favorite) will tell you everything - even things you don't want to know! (insert they embarrass their parents here) Yes 2 is amazing, 3 is awesome BUT 4 is GLORIOUS!
I work with a lot of children in the Charleston and surrounding areas (we get a LOT of families coming in from Atlanta, Savannah and Hilton Head - so many out of town-ers too) We photograph newborns and up but have a LOT of children in the age 2 - 18 range . . . and then of course families too.
But take it from me, someone who has worked with children for over 15 years, There is NOTHING like the age of 4 when it comes to portraiture. So if you have a 4 year old I high recommend you bring them in (with their siblings of course!) But do not miss out on the age of 4. You can't get it back! EVER.
