Did you know we typically have over 200 dogs photographed in our studio in Charleston, SC a year? Whether it is for a fundraiser or someone just wants a beautiful piece of artwork of their beloved fur baby. . . we absolutely adore four legged friends here at Castelo Portrait Art! Dogs are always so excited to see us and typically are very nice! They never want to yell at us here at the studio or tell us no. . . even though I have had the occasional pup decide to show me their bum instead of their face! Or they may go hide for a little bit behind a backdrop. . . It's like dealing with toddlers in a way. Sometimes we have great attitude and sometimes we need a little patience! I talk all about patience HERE but know that I have, what seems life, an infinite amount of it when it comes to my work!
The really cool thing about my studio and my craft is I can piece dogs together just like I did HERE. What I've always noticed when it comes to dogs (and toddlers!) is that if you have more than one in the studio at a time. . . typically that causes anxiety. They both won't look at the camera at the same time, they'll walk in opposite directions. . . or if I want one to sit and one to lay down? ALMOST impossible to do at the same time. So I actually bring one pup in at a time and then piece them together for the finished portrait long after they leave my studio! The pups get the spotlight one at a time, it's quick and painless, and it usually means everyone is a lot happier! I actually created a quick little video for you to see my process HERE! I always like to create snippets to better explain my process! It would be so easy if I could just give a USB from my brain to show how it all comes together but unfortunately that is just not possible! I always place the dogs in the place they need to be for that final portrait! Take a look below at some of my favorite fur families and you would never be able to guess they were never in the same room at the same time!
