Time does not stop for anyone. Typically, we have children and then our parents get to watch us raise their grandchildren. They watch traditions being repeated, created, and some even forgotten. Maybe its the Easter meal that changes or the opening a Christmas gift on Christmas Eve stays the same! We can all think back to our childhood and remember things in a certain way. I love meeting new friends in Charleston, SC and hearing how they lived their lives and sometimes I'm lucky enough to meet the grandparents and hear the light their grandchildren are to them! As much as our children matter to us, let's admit it. . . Our parents mean so much to us, too! We often forget to include them as we get older and our lives get busy. Yes, having them over for holidays is important and maybe even seeing them on Sundays can become a habit too. But how often do you create a time to make them feel special and have family portraits done???? Not only is that so important to the grandparents - but let's be honest, they won't be around forever. It'll mean even more to you and your children when the time comes they aren't around anymore. Life is so fleeting and tomorrow is never promised!
Look at the family above! When I talked to the mom I instantly KNEW I had to meet her mother. She originally reached out to me to recreate a painting of her daughter at the same age, in the same dress that SHE wore when she was younger! How amazing is that??? A dress to be passed down through generations and to recreate an idea at the same age is right up my alley! This kind of session makes me smile and it's one of my favorite things to do! When I found out the grandmother was a very active part of their lives and that she had the painting of the mother hanging up in her home - I had to get her in the door! I had to capture 3 generations of beautiful, strong, and loving women! I loved speaking with them, getting to know them, and working with them! While recreating the painting in the dress was the main reason for the session. . . capturing a generational portrait was truly my favorite part of the session! I can't get enough!
