Maybe it’s the way your dogs tilt their heads to the side when you ask if they want to go for a walk.
Or maybe it’s that “who me?” expression. You know the one. When you’ve caught your dog doing something she knows she’s not supposed to do.
Or how your cat paws at your stomach like a baker carefully kneading dough when she settles down to rest at the end of a long day... or curls up with his best friend...
You may not even be able to put your finger on what makes your pet so endearing or why you love him so much. But you know that you are over the moon for your furry companion and you never want to forget how you feel when you’re cuddled up with him curled up at your feet.
It’s hard to put into words exactly how much we adore our pets because most of the time the sweet moments are so fleeting. It’s even harder to capture those big personalities--silly, loyal, loving, mischievous--in a formal pet portrait.
That’s one of the things I love most about taking pet portraits. My human subjects are able to take some direction on poses and facial expressions. My furry subjects just do their thing--and it’s up to me to capture their personalities for their people to cherish forever!
(All of the portraits featured in this blog post were from my recent fur only event here in Charleston, SC. Our cleints come from a large radius - Summerville, SC, Goose Creek, SC - Kiawah, Daniel Island! Everyone loves their Pets! Make sure you check out my gallery of pet portraits here!) We have another event coming up fast too! Go HERE for more information!
I love how completely uninhibited pets are--they are who they are and they make no apologies! I love the challenge of capturing the many ways they express themselves without saying even one word.
More than anything, though, I love the looks on their people’s faces when they see something familiar in their final pet portraits that really portrays one of the little things about their pet that they hold so dear.
What quirky things does your pet do? Have you ever been able to capture it in a photograph?
