I am often asked . . . Is this a photograph or a painting? What do you create? I don't understand...
The truth is, I create both. I have them named too, and below you can see the difference. Of course, seeing it in person is VERY different then a screenshot on the computer - or even worse yet, your phone! After all, when Steve Jobs created iphones it certainly wasn't to view art - although it sure is convenient! I love what I do and I love perfectly finished pieces. That is the definition of 'portrait art' - taking a photograph or many photographs and creating one "perfect" piece. Then... depending on what my clients commission me to do, there are many finishes AND many ways to execute the perfect piece of art with the perfect frame too, of course.
I start by creating portraits in my studio, or, on location depending on what we have planned. The imagery I create is the starting point for everything I do. Think of it in simple terms... you go to Lowe's here in Charleston, SC and you buy some 2x4's or different cuts of wood, perfectly picked of course. The wood is the images I capture in camera with amazing lighting and technique! Then you go home or to a workshop and with a LOT of tools and knowledge you take those pieces you bought and skillfully create a custom piece - perhaps a gorgeous table or custom cabinetry. Of course, this can only be accomplished by a skilled carpenter with many years of experience... what I create here is no different! Just a different form of art! I am a skilled portrait artist and painter. I have spent almost 20 years of my life honing in on my craft and I LOVE what I do. It's incredibly time intensive and yet, it is incredibly gratifying to know that I have skillfully captured these pieces that will be cherished and viewed for generations and generations - even after I am long gone. I make people cry the happiest of tears when they pick up their pieces . . . whether they are going to display their beautiful child, family or fur family - the results are always breathtaking.
Continue below for the difference . . .
The pieces I create vary due to the subject & of course, number of subjects. I have chosen to use little 'Henry' bc he stole my heart and this is a perfect example of what I do, and offer. Images are created and can be photographic, finished in the Vicenza style or the masterpiece of what I create: the Castelo Painting.
What is a Vicenza Portrait?
Each and every piece that leaves our studio is an original piece of art and our Vicenza portrait series is by far our most popular. The Vicenza portrait is finished and created by taking original imagery captured in camera at our studio and manipulating it into a gorgeous piece that can be finished in many different types of art . . . Canvases & Fine Art being two of the most popular. Castelo Portrait Art invests a great deal of time and effort in creating a beautiful piece that is finished in great detail. The Vicenza finish is made to be shown prominently without glass. Our Vicenza portraits somewhat assume the ‘look’ of a painting, however, they are digitally created and are photographically finished.
What is a Castelo Painting?
The Castelo Painting is the most exquisite representation of the artwork Maria Sampaio at Castelo Portrait Art produces.
Enjoying the classical beauty of these painted portraits will stand the test of time. Each work demonstrates brush strokes, breathtaking details and vivid color depth.
Your Castelo Painting created here in Charleston, SC does not require glass. Maria will create your painting and seal it with many layers to last a lifetime.
A Castelo painting is an example of the finest, most exhilarating examples of portraiture available today. It is created when you combine fine art painting with the realism of a hand painted portrait to achieve a stunning work of art. This intricate process brings together hand painting, finished on a canvas giclée, which will captivate viewers. It takes a little longer to achieve the final masterpiece but it is well worth the time and investment required to enjoy for a lifetime. Words can give you an idea of how the Castelo Painting is created but seeing and touching a finished painting will say it all!
Below are more examples of paintings created by Castelo Portrait Art. The final piece is discussed based on what look you are going for and then executed. Painting take much longer to create . . . and depending on the piece can be as fast as 4 months and as long as 8 months.
